I can see AR art evolving from traditional street art: if an artist can both spray up a cool figure like the guy or gal in this video, and also animate them and write neat little stories or interactions (or collaborate with someone who can), then all that’s missing is the recognition and tracking technology to tie the animations and their existing art together.

I might not make a significant enough connection with every piece of street art I see to interrogate it for digital layers using my phone, but for those that do hit me, this is also a way I can leave feedback to the artist, find out about their other works, motivations etc.

AR doesn’t always have to be the primary modality, sometimes it can be the digital cherry on top.
